The Education Program was initiated in Saleh Mohalla in 2006. Since then the program has been extended to almost all the Mohallas of Karachi. Other cities of Pakistan, namely Rawalpindi and Hyderabad have also been added to this program.

Mohalla Teams, working under the leadership of their Aamil Saheb, have been constituted for this purpose. It is their commitment, dedication and sheer perseverance that has led to such excellent results. A large number of voluntary individuals have given and continue to give, vast amounts of time and patience in meeting with parents, children and schools advising, counselling and requesting them in order to achieve the goal of quality education for all Mumineen children.

Over 750 children are also being provided with financial assistance under this program. However, it is essential to understand that the efforts of the Central Committee and the Mohalla Committees go way beyond these 700 plus children. Many of the parents who have been counseled choose to send children to school at their own expense, a move welcomed. Further, the work is not completed even when the children have been placed in standard schools. Their progress is continuously monitored to ensure that the children are able to maintain the level of the school that they are studying in. If and when needed, the Mohalla Committee steps in to arrange tuitions for children that are having problems.

Future Plans

Future plans for this program fall in two categories:

  1. As population increases in these Mohallas, each year new children are added to the database. As these children grow up and attain the level of school going age, the Mohalla team attempts to ensure that they are enrolled in good schools. At the same time, continuous efforts and counseling is done of those parents and children who continue to show reluctance to pursue a course of studies in good quality schools.
  2. New Mohallas are added to this program on a periodic basis. Inshallah, other Mohallas of Karachi and Pakistan will be added to this program in the future.
